Bethany Sweeney
I am a trained professional dancer with over 20 years experience of teaching ballet and Pilates.
I run Ballet and Pilates sessions in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, offering group sessions and 1-2-1s. I believe passionately in the value of both Ballet and Pilates for all age groups for continuing physical and mental health and fitness.
About me
I started ballet at the age of eight and then went to Tring Park, Arts Educational School from the age of 11 to train as a ballet dancer. After a training in classical ballet I went on to train in contemporary dance, initially at The Laban Centre in London, and then progressing to complete a BA (Hons) Dance Degree at De Montfort University. In 1994 I qualified as a Primary School Teacher and went on to work in schools for 10 years before setting up my Ballet and Pilates School in 2002.
Pilates is regarded as an essential component of Ballet training supporting the development of fitness, strength and flexibility. The additional value of Pilates as a highly effective method of physical rehabilitation following injury, surgery, health and mobility issues was brought home to me following a serious knee injury that ended my dance career. Through Pilates I have been able to fully recover from knee and foot surgeries enabling me to return to dance and open my Ballet and Pilates School in 2002.
I believe passionately in the value of both Ballet and Pilates for all age groups. I teach adult Ballet classes and specialised student 1-2-1 classes. I also teach Pilates classes and 1-2-1 Pilates Reformer sessions.
“Beth's adult ballet class is amazing, it's hard to think about anything else whilst you're dancing! Her knowledge is incredible, she explains things clearly and patiently and always manages to get the balance between technique, progression, fitness, enjoyment and fun. Every lesson makes me smile, it's a lovely relaxed and friendly atmosphere and yet you feel challenged too. It's certainly had an impact on my balance, fitness, flexibility, strength and wellbeing.”
